How to activate data to Magnite CTV
You can activate your first-party data from InfoSum to Magnite CTV.
To activate your first-party data from InfoSum via Magnite CTV you need to have your own cloud storage. You can choose to use an S3 bucket, a GCS bucket or an SFTP server. You can then send the file with your activation segment to the destination chosen, then pick the file from your own location and upload it to Magnite’s CTV (MCTV) platform using your MCTV credentials. Once moved there, it will be queued for processing and made available on MCTV. Let’s see how.
Before you begin
Please contact your Magnite account manager to confirm activation requirements based on your Magnite integration. The following steps are not applicable to MCTV Addressable Audience Targeting customers.
Set up your own preferred cloud location
To extract an activation segment from InfoSum to activate using MCTV you need to set up an S3/GCS bucket or an SFTP server where the file will be pushed to. You can choose the preferred cloud location according to the technology you are using or have at your disposal.
Define the taxonomy and share it with Magnite
Before you can begin uploading data, you must share a segment taxonomy that describes the segment you will be sending in your data import files. Contact Magnite support for more information.
Data activation in InfoSum
Create an activation Bunker
To export your audience segment out of InfoSum you’ll need to have an activation Bunker.
If you don’t have one yet, you’ll need to set this up first. See creating a dataset for details.
When you are setting up your activation Bunker, please make sure that you select, as output columns, one of the IDs that the Magnite CTV platform can currently ingest:
- AAID, Android ID set by Android device
- IDFA, Apple ID set by Apple devices
- AFAI, Amazon Fire ID
- RIDA, Roku ID set by Roku devices
- TIFA, Samsung ID set by Samsung devices
- Synthetic IFA - These are identifiers for advertising (IFA) that are generated by publishers or SSPs in the absence of a device-generated IFA
- IP address
There are two options for activation:
- You build the audience segment and use your activation Bunker, or
- You give permission to a partner to build a segment and use your activation Bunker
Option one: you build the activation segment
Step 1. Create your activation segment
Using the Segment Builder
For more information on how to create a segment, see using Segment Builder.
Once the segment is created, select New Activation from the menu on the top right corner. Choose the dataset you want to use for activation and the output column you want to export. Write User Key as Output data column label. Define the Campaign ID.
Select the Add a column of string values to your output data option to build the export file as is requested by MCTV. Add a column by writing Action as Column Name and A as Column Value. Add a second column by writing in the second-row Segment Name as Column Name and the name of the segments you are activating as Column Value, e.g. Loyal Customers. This is the segment name within Magnite. This doesn’t have to be pre-created. If the segment name does not exist, then the MCTV platform will create it. Select Comma as the Column Delimiter and click Submit.
Using the Query Tool
For more information on how activation queries work, see activation query.
To write an activation query, go to the Console Tab of Query Tool. Select Activation and write your activation query. This is the segment name within Magnite, this doesn’t have to be pre-created, if the segment name does not exist, then the MCTV platform will create it. Select Comma as the Column Delimiter.
Select also the Override queried column headers with new headers option. Replace Header to override with the name of the key you are activating, e.g. Email, and replace New Column Header with User Key.
Enter the Campaign ID and click on Create Campaign.
Step 2: Connect your S3/GCS bucket or SFTP server to your Activation Bunker
Go to the Activation tab under Activate and select the campaign you created for the data activation. At the bottom of the page, you will see a box containing three menu tabs - Details, Export Configuration and Export History. Switch to Export Configuration and use the slider to enable the connector you want to use and fill the form out with the details required.
See the following links for more information about how to push data to:
Click on the Save button, then click on the Activate button to push the data to the final destination selected.
Step 3. Upload the exported file to Magnite’s CTV platform.
Once you have pushed the exported file from InfoSum to the destination selected (S3/GCS bucket or SFTP server) you need to upload it to Magnite’s CTV (MCTV) platform using your MCTV credentials. Once moved there, it will be queued for processing by MCTV.
Option two: You give permission to a partner to build a segment and use your activation Bunker
If you want to allow another partner to reference your dataset and to use your activation Bunker for activating data, you need to create an Activation permission. When you create permissions, you define how another party can use your dataset. You can see here how InfoSum Permissions work.
Step 1. Create an Activation permission
First of all, you need to create an Activation permission for your activation bunker that allows your partner to reference your dataset. Click here to learn how to create an activation permission.
Step 2. Share the activation dataset name with the partner
The partner will need to know the name of the activation dataset as they will need to include this information if they build a segment to activate or if they run an activation query.
Step 3. Share the cloud storage credentials with the partner
Please follow your organization's process to share information with a third party.
Step 4. The partner creates the activation segment and pushes it to the chosen S3/GCS bucket or SFTP server.
As described in option one above.
Step 5. Upload the exported file to Magnite’s CTV platform.
As described in option one above.
Verify that MCTV is ingesting data correctly
When a new file has been received by MCTV, it is added to the processing queue. You can see file processing status in the MCTV UI.
- MCTV updates segments and user counts roughly every 6 hours.
- The processing status data shown by MCTV UI is available for the last 7 days.
