How to activate data to Tealium AudienceStream
You can activate your first-party data from InfoSum to Tealium AudienceStream.
To activate your first-party data from InfoSum to Tealium AudienceStream you need to implement Tealium’s self-service data ingestion process (File Transfer Service). You can use either Tealium’s S3 bucket, or if you prefer, your own cloud-based S3 bucket or SFTP server as your activation destination in InfoSum. You can then directly send the file with your activation segment to the desired S3 bucket or SFTP server to make it available in Audience Stream. Let’s see how.
Before you begin
Set up your cloud location
If you want to use the S3 bucket provided by Tealium, please contact the Tealium support team to request access.
If you choose to use your own S3 bucket or an SFTP server, set it up so it can be used as a push connector in InfoSum. For more information, see configuring Amazon S3 Cross-Account or hosting an SFTP server in AWS (AWS Transfer Family).
Set up a file import data source in Tealium AudienceStream
You need to set up a file import data source in AudienceStream before starting the data ingestion process. Contact the Tealium support team or click here for more information.
Data activation in InfoSum
Create an activation Bunker
To export your audience segment out of InfoSum you’ll need to have an activation Bunker. If you don’t have one yet, you’ll need to set this up first. See creating a dataset for details.
When you are setting up your activation Bunker, please ensure that you select, as output columns, one of the IDs that Tealium AudienceStream can currently ingest. AudienceStream can accept most of the IDs available. If you have any doubts, please contact the Tealium support team.
Create an activation in InfoSum
There are two options for activation:
- You build the audience segment and use your activation Bunker, or
- You give permission to a partner to build a segment and use your activation Bunker
Option one: you build the activation segment and use your activation Bunker
Step 1: Create your activation segment
Using the Segment Builder
For more information on how to create a segment, see using Segment Builder.
Once the segment is created, select New Activation from the menu on the top right corner.
Choose the dataset you want to use for activation and the output column you want to export.
Add a Campaign ID to identify the campaign.
You can choose to add a column of string values to your output data that can be used as attributes in the Tealium Customer Data Platform (CDP). This will help you, for example, to associate useful information such as the segment name to the visitor IDs. To do this, check the Add a column of string values to your output data option. Add a column by writing the Column Name and the Column Value that you want to have available to you in the CDP.
Select Comma as the Column Delimiter and click Submit.
Using the Query Tool
For more information on how activation queries work, see activation query.
To write an activation query, go to the Console Tab of Query Tool and write your activation query.

Enter the Campaign ID and click on Create Campaign.
Step 2: Connect your S3 bucket or SFTP server to your Activation Bunker
Go to the Activation tab under Activate and select the campaign you created for the data activation. At the bottom of the page, you will see a box containing three menu tabs - Details, Export Configuration and Export History. Switch to Export Configuration and use the slider to enable the connector you want to use and fill out the form with the required details.
See the following links for more information about how to push data to:
If you are using the S3 bucket provided by Tealium, please ensure you have all the required information.
Fill out the form with the required details. Please be attentive to the correct spelling and punctuation when completing all fields. The Destination Filename must be in the following format:
{prefix}_{version}.csv
Where:
prefix is a unique identifier for groups of files that share the same CSV column names
version is a unique identifier for a file within a prefix, usually a timestamp.
Tealium CDP strongly recommends that you avoid using any special characters other than “-” and “_” in the filename and they emphasize that file names are case sensitive. More information on Tealium’s suggestions and requirements can be found here.
Your Destination filename could look similar to: InfoSumLoyalCustomers_20220605.csv
Click on the Save button, then click on the Activate button to push the data to the selected final destination.
Option two: You give permission to a partner to build a segment and use your activation Bunker
If you want to allow another partner to reference your dataset and to use your activation Bunker for activating data, you need to create an Activation permission. When you create permissions, you define how another party can use your dataset. Click here to learn how InfoSum Permissions work.
Step 1. Create an Activation permission
First of all, you need to create an Activation permission for your activation bunker that allows your partner to reference your dataset. Click here to learn how to create an activation permission.
Step 2. Share the activation dataset name with the partner
The partner will need to know the name of the activation dataset as they will need to include this information if they build a segment to activate or if they run an activation query.
Step 3. Share the cloud storage credentials with the partner
Please follow your organization's process to share information with a third party.
Step 4. The partner creates the activation segment and pushes it to the chosen S3 bucket or SFTP server.
As described in option one above.
Verify that AudienceStream is ingesting data correctly
After the file import data source is set up and has begun importing files, you can verify if Tealium CDP is ingesting data correctly by viewing the import activity in the Status tab and expanding the data source in the Data Sources Dashboard.
You can also verify the data ingestion status by navigating to Live Events and selecting the File Import data source you want to view from the drop-down list.
Please note
If you create multiple activations and consequently have many files in the SFTP server or S3 bucket, Tealium AudienceStream will process the files in alphabetical order based on the file name.
