How to create an activation dataset permission (Push Connectors - Legacy)
IMPORTANT |
Push connectors will soon be removed from the platform and replaced by Destinations. To learn how to use your Activation Bunker with Destinations please read this article. |
When you give another user permission to reference your activation dataset, they can write queries that return a list of identifiers that relate to specific individuals.
Typically (but not necessarily), they will connect your activation dataset with their own datasets in order to generate a list of individuals that meet specific criteria. The other party could use your activation dataset to run activation queries, but you can choose whether or not they are able to see the results.
Giving another user permission to reference your activation dataset
To allow another user to reference your activation dataset, you need to use the Platform to set up a permission. If you are in a company and do not have rights to create a permission, you will need to ask someone who has the rights to set up the permission.
Before you can set up permission for an activation dataset, you must already have created that dataset. For more details of this process, see publishing a dataset.
You can set up permission for an activation dataset even if you haven't yet imported or published any data. The other user will not be able to reference your data until you have published it.
NB: You can only send activation permissions to InfoSum accounts that have activations enabled, otherwise you will not be able to create the permission. To enable this functionality, the other party may need to request this from support@infosum.com.
To give another user permission to reference an activation dataset:
Log on to Platform, if you haven't already.
Switch to the Permissions Sent tab and select the New Permission button.
Enter the email address of the person you want to give permission to. Please ask your partner which email address you should send the permission to. Once you've created the permission, the email address will be saved for easy re-use and can be deleted by clicking on the Edit Saved Addresses button.
Identify the activation dataset or datasets you want to give permission for, using the Public Name (datasets can only be insight or activation, not both). Click Next.
The permissions setting table shown below will then appear, where you can define how the recipient can use your activation dataset. By default, the most restrictive settings are selected. This allows the other party to use your activation dataset to see only statistical data for the intersection with your dataset, but not to query, activate or push results. Please see permissions overview for more information on your options.
Choose the permission settings “Query the whole dataset” and an “In combination” option.
Click Next. Choose one of the following options to select the push connector of your choice:
- Create your push connector from one of our base templates and add your destination details. You can allow the other user to enter only the file name by enabling the "User Editable" option. In this way, you are restricting user to activate to your push connector and don't need to share your destination details.
- Select the push connector and let the user enter destination details during activation. You may need to share your destination details with the user.
Option 1: Create your push connector from one of our base templates and add your destination details
Click Create New Push Connector and select a base template from the drop-down list. InfoSum provides base templates for Google Cloud Storage, SFTP and Amazon S3.
Enter the destination details for the push connector. You will need to enable “User Editable” for any field the other party can update (only Destination Filename is enabled in this example).
Give the new push connector a name and click Submit. This new push connector is added to the list and will be available as a base template.
Click Create. You can view the new permission by switching to the Permissions Sent tab.
Once the other party has accepted the permission, they can only push your activation dataset to the push connector destination you specified. In the example screenshot, only the destination filename can be specified by the other party.
Option 2: Select the push connector and let the user enter destination details during activation.
Select a push connector from the drop-down list. To enable this functionality, you will need to request this from support@infosum.com.
Click Create. You can view the new permission by switching to the Permissions Sent tab.
The status icon tells you that the other user still needs to accept your permission.
If you gave the other user permission to access more than one activation dataset, you'll see that those datasets are listed separately on the Permissions Sent tab. From now on, these are treated as separate permissions, which you will manage individually.
Once the other party has accepted the permission, they can only push your activation dataset to the push connector you specified (S3 in this example) and they will need to enter the destination details.
Editing permissions
Once you've created the permission, you can edit these settings at any time by clicking the Edit button.
