Adform Activation Guide (S3)
InfoSum does not have a native Adform Destination, but you can easily activate data to Adform via their self-service data ingestion process.
Adform provides an S3 bucket that you can set up as your activation destination in InfoSum. You can then directly send the file with your activation segment and make it available in Adform. Adform also requires a taxonomy to be created - you have three options to do this, all of which are shown in this guide.

Adform data onboarding set-up
You will need to request S3 bucket details from Adform and create a taxonomy file prior to getting started with data operations in InfoSum.
Create an S3 bucket
Contact your Adform Account Manager to get your S3 bucket access. You will receive an automatic email containing the following information:
- Username
- Bucket Name & Path
- Password
If you have already done this and you have your S3 bucket details, please skip this step.
Note: The bucket name may vary depending on the ID type being activated and so you may need to create multiple InfoSum destinations (one for exporting each ID type). Ask your Adform Account Manager for more information on which bucket to export to for differing ID types.
Build the taxonomy file
Adform DMP needs some information about the ingested segments to manage them. To pass this information, you have two options:
-
Using Adform DMP UI - two options:
- Create taxonomy manually in the tab Audiences
- Upload the taxonomy file. This can be done in DMP Settings > Building a Taxonomy File off the platforms Settings > Taxonomy > Import Audience Categories
- Using S3: You can create the taxonomy file outside of the platform following the example below and then send it to the same S3 bucket used for the activation process.
If a new segment is pushed to S3 after creating and sharing the taxonomy file, a new taxonomy file should be uploaded.
The taxonomy file must be a CSV file with the following structure. Adform provides a template to use on their API documentation (step 4 in Workflow section)
| RefId | Name | Ttl | Frequency | Fee | Status | Category | Data Type | IAB Taxonomy ID |
| G1-01 | Male | 21 | 1 | 1 | Active | Demography/Gender | 1 | 1;15;16 |
| G1-02 | Female | 21 | 1 | 2 | Active | Demography/Gender | 2 | 1;15;17 |
| G131-03 | Families with kids | 21 | 1 | 0.75 | Active | Demography/Social status/Family Size | 3 | 1;20;22 |
| G131-02 | Couples | 21 | 1 | 0.75 | Active | Demography/Social status/Family Size | 1 | 1;20;22 |
Where:
- RefID = this ID is used to link data you send from InfoSum. You can use whatever string you want, though we suggest using a name that reminds you of the aim of the segment. Make a note of this RefID as you’ll need it in the Activation Creation in InfoSum. The RefID is also known as a Segment Owner ID if you are using the Adform account UI.
- Name = segment name.
-
Ttl = time to live value, which stands for how long the cookie will remain in the segment (max 120 days).
Frequency = how many times the user has to hit the Category to fall under the audience (typically, set to 1). - Fee = CPM price for the segments (whether you are allowed to set the Fee depends on the DMP contract you have).
- Status = segment status, which can be 'active' or 'inactive'.
- Category = your data can be categorized as preferred (category and sub-category separated with '/'). Ask Adform for more details.
- Data Type = holds information about the data type assigned to an audience, the possible values are 1, 2, 3. Ask Adform for more details.
- UnifiedTaxonomyID = the ID of Unified Taxonomy. Ask Adform for more details.
Dataset and destination set-up for Adform
Activation Keys
You must have your own or have a dataset available in the collaboration that has at least one of Adform’s supported Activation IDs:
- Adform ID
- MAID
- First party ID*
- External ID*
*It needs a matching process to an Adform ID to make data activable into the Adform ecosystem.
Create an S3 Destination
Go to the Destinations tab under Activate and create a new S3 Access Keys destination to connect to your Adform-provided S3 bucket.
The Bucket, Access Key ID, Secret Access Key and Destination Path should have been provided by Adform.
Note that the Bucket should have no leading S3 identifier, e.g. "bucket-name" not "s3://bucket-name".
Adform requires files to be placed in prefixes for the specific date of the data export. To achieve this be sure to prefix the Filename (which can be anything but must be unique for exports on the same day) with dt={yyyymmdd}/. Where yyyymmdd is a timestamp of when the Activation will be sent to the S3 bucket. Toggle the Filename to be “is editable during export” so that at the time of export you can modify the date and filename value.
Your destination should look like the screenshot below, which results in the platform pushing the data to: s3://amzn-s3-demo-adform/adform-path-for-your-company/dt=20260101/activation-segment.csv.
Finally click SUBMIT to finish your destination.
IMPORTANT: You must add your destination to the collaboration being used for your campaign so that you or the collaboration operator can export activation segments to it.
Activate data to Adform
1. Create your activation segment
You can activate results to a Destination using either Segment Builder or the Query Tool.
If using the Segment Builder, select New Activation Segment from the menu on the top right corner. Choose the dataset you want to use for activation, the output column you want to export and add an Activation Segment Name to identify your campaign within InfoSum
We must now configure the activation format for Adform to ingest the data and associate it with your Adform Segment.
- Set the column delimiter as TAB
- Set the multi-value delimiter as COMMA.
-
Select the Add values to your output data option. This allows Adform to link your activation to Adform Segments.
- Set the Column Name as RefID and the Column Value to be the RefID of the Adform Segment Taxonomy you created earlier. The RefId is also known as a Segment Owner ID if you are using the Adform account UI.
If using the Query Tool and select Activation as your query type. Under the Query Text box you can see the Settings, check the Add values to your output data option to easily build the CSV file as required by the Adform ingestion process.
Set the Column Name and Column Value using the same convention as in the Segment Builder above with your RefID. Select Tab as the Column Delimiter, Comma as the Multi-Value Delimiter, and click on Create Campaign.
Following the previous rules, both for segment or activation query option, allows you to build a CSV file where each line should be in the following format:
device_id <TAB> RefID
<idfa_1> <TAB> 123456
<idfa_2> <TAB> 123456
Note: You can associate your InfoSum segment with multiple Adform segments by using a comma separated list of Segment Owner IDs (RefIDs) as the Column Value.
Finally click Submit.
2. Navigate to Activation Segments & start an export
Once you’ve created the activation segment, go to the Activation Segments tab under Activate, where you can find all of the historic segments that have been created by your team for that collaboration. Please ensure you are in the correct Collaboration view at the top for the Activation you're looking for.
A ‘ready’ status shows that the query has been successful and is ready to be sent to a Destination. Activation segments are only ‘Ready’ for 36 hours, this is to ensure that you are always exporting the freshest data. You can easily refresh a segment by clicking ‘refresh’ in the details panel of each segment.
When you select an Activation segment, an information panel appears on the side of the page allowing you to view the segment and export it to a Destination with the correct permissions for that Collaboration.
You can click ‘Export’ to start a new export, or click ‘View’ / double-click on the activation segment name to view all exports associated with this segment.
Now select your destination
After you click Export, a new pane will appear with a list of the destinations available for this segment. You will be able to see all the Destinations that your company owns or has permission to use for that Collaboration. Select your destination, and configure any custom fields.
-
Update the dt value in the Filename to today’s date and ensure the filename is unique for today’s exports and hit Export Activation Segment.
Adform will only ingest the segment if the filename is for today’s date.
Because of this limitation, you cannot use automated exports to activate that to Adform as we do not support dynamic export file naming.
Verify that Adform is ingesting data correctly
You can verify the connection is ready and receiving data directly in Adform by verifying the status of the Audience pushed.
