A range is a set of continuous values which are to be grouped together into a bin.

Ranges are often expressed using a mathematical notation similar to [10,20). Here, the [character means "inclusive", and the ) character means "exclusive". So in this example, exactly 10 is in the range, but exactly 20 is not in the range.
