How to create an activation dataset permission and attach destinations
When you give another user permission to reference your activation dataset, they can write queries that return a list of identifiers that relate to specific individuals.
Typically (but not necessarily), they will connect your activation dataset with their own datasets in order to generate a list of individuals that meet specific criteria. The other party could use your activation dataset to run activation queries, but you can choose whether or not they are able to see the results.

Giving another user permission to reference your activation dataset
To allow another user to reference your activation dataset, you need to use the Platform to set up a permission. If you are in a company and do not have rights to create a permission, you will need to ask someone who has the rights to set up the permission.
Before you can set up a permission for an activation dataset, you must already have created that dataset. For more details of this process, see publishing a dataset.
NB: You can only send activation permissions to InfoSum accounts that have activations enabled, otherwise you will not be able to create the permission. To enable this functionality, the other party may need to request this from support@infosum.com.
To give another user permission to reference an activation dataset:
- Log on to Platform, if you haven't already.
- Under the Collaborate tab, select the Permissions Sent tab and select the New Permission button.
- Enter the email address of the person you want to give permission to and click next.
Please ask your partner which email address you should send the permission to. Once you've created the permission, the email address will be saved for easy re-use and can be deleted by clicking on the Edit Saved Addresses button.
Note: The option to use Google PAIR is available for collaborators but is not available as standard. Please contact your InfoSum representative to learn more or gain access. You can find out more about Google PAIR here.
Identify the activation dataset or datasets you want to give permission for, using the Public Name (datasets can only be insight or activation, not both). Click Next.
The permissions setting table shown below will then appear, where you can define how the recipient can use your activation dataset. By default, the most restrictive settings are selected. This allows the other party to use your activation dataset to see only statistical data for the intersection with your dataset, but not to query, activate or push results. Please see permissions overview for more information on your options.
NB: You will see that the Attach a Destination to this Permission toggle appears for the two query options only (as highlighted below).
Choose the settings that you wish to apply to the permission and click next.
You can now choose the destination to attach to this permission. You can only attach permission to datasets that you own or have been shared with you by a collaborator. See sharing a destination with a collaborator below.
If you are waiting on the destination to be shared by a collaborator, set up the permission without the destination attached and you can attach the destination once it has been shared.
Sharing a destination with a collaborator.
In order to receive data back from the collaborator for analysis and insights, you must share a destination you own to your collaboration partner and attach to a permission.
How to share a destination
- Go to the Activate tab and click Destinations
- Select the Destination you wish to share
- Within the details panel on the right Select the Action menu (three dots)
- Select Share.
Then Complete the form with the email of the person with whom you want to share the destination, any optional comments and click share destination.
THEN Collaborator MUST:
- Go to Activate tab and click Destinations
- Click on the Received tab
- Select the destination that has been shared with you
NOTE: Check the details of the destination to ensure that it matches what was agreed with the collaboration partner. It’s your responsibility to ensure any shared data is shared as agreed. Also, you can see that the destination is locked, you cannot amend the details of a shared destination for security reasons. If details are not as expected, click on the action menu(three dots) and click remove. Contact your partner in order to make any changes.
Shared destinations can only be used with permissions that are being sent to the same company that shared the original destination. The permission must already exist, and have been accepted by the company that sent the destination. Once the permission has been accepted it can be edited to include the shared destination. (See below).
Editing permissions
Once you've created the permission, you can edit these settings at any time by clicking the Edit button.
