Using 100% accuracy queries
Privacy controls are safeguards built into InfoSum Platform, designed to prevent accidental or deliberate identification of individuals through queries. In a nutshell, privacy controls do two things:
- prevent queries reporting on very small numbers of individuals (because those individuals might then be identified)
- and add a small, intentional error margin to all results - which is insignificant when aggregated statistics are used for their intended purpose, but prevents manipulation of the input data to reveal information about individuals.
You can use the 100% accuracy queries feature to reduce the effect of these controls. This enables you to execute activation queries without injecting any noise to the results. Rounding and redaction will still be applied.
If you are interested in running this type of query, please get in contact with your InfoSum representative.
Once you have the feature enabled, a new setting will appear in the Query Tool and you will now be able to execute 100% accurate queries against any dataset that you own. This feature does not require any changes to the query syntax as it only alters the results. To use it, simply select the button as shown below.
If you have received a permission from another user, it will need to be adjusted to allow you to use their dataset in this way - and vice versa. If you or anyone else submits a 100% accuracy query that references a dataset without the correct type of permission, the whole query will fail.
When creating a new permission, you can enable the recipient to use your dataset in a 100% accuracy query by first selecting one of the 'query' settings, then allowing its use in an activation query, then the 100% accurate queries box will appear. All permissions can be adjusted or revoked at any time.
To instead adjust an existing permission, switch to the Permissions Sent tab and click on the row and the additional settings box will appear. When you click on Settings the same form as shown above will appear and can be edited. Once you've selected the correct settings, make sure to click Update.
