How to query datasets
The quick start provides an overview on how to query datasets in Platform.
Queries are written in a language called the Insight Query Language (IQL), InfoSum's specialist tool for analysing data across multiple linked datasets. You can run them either using the Query Tool in Dataset Manager, or programmatically through the Platform API.
An IQL query returns statistical results, founded on aggregated, anonymised data - without the risk of identifying individual users. It is loosely based on SQL, but has a number of adaptations matching the unique capabilities of InfoSum Platform.
A query in IQL always references one or more datasets, and compromises of two parts:
SELECTclause, which describes the statistics you want to generate
- an optional
WHEREclause, which applies a filter to the records included in the results
For an in-depth guide on IQL, see the Platform Guide. You can also use a language like Python to access InfoSum Platform programmatically.
